Engineering Lead - Node.js / Fullstack

We are looking for an Engineering Lead with 8+ years of experience and a strong foundation in Node.js, Express.js, Next.js, and AWS to lead and mentor their team. The ideal candidate is an ownership-driven leader who combines deep technical expertise with people-first management — someone who elevates their team, architects scalable solutions, and can confidently represent 7Span in client-facing conversations.

Team Leadership and Management

• Lead a team of Node.js/Fullstack developers and DevOps engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and career development support.

• Drive team performance by setting clear goals, conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and creating individual growth plans.

• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning within the department.

• Lead hiring efforts — screen candidates, conduct technical interviews, and raise the hiring bar for the team.

• Identify skill gaps across the team and build structured learning paths to address them.

Solution Architecture and Technical Design

• Prepare solution architecture for new projects — define system design, tech stack choices, data models, API contracts, and infrastructure approach.

• Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance applications using Node.js, Express.js, and Next.js.

• Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines across the department.

• Evaluate and recommend new tools, libraries, and patterns to keep the team's stack modern and efficient.

Project Delivery and Technical Leadership

• Lead 1–2 projects directly as the technical project lead, overseeing delivery end-to-end.

• Bring a strong track record of shipping complex fullstack projects — you've been through the hard parts (scope creep, production incidents, tight deadlines) and know how to navigate them.

• Set delivery standards across the department by sharing frameworks, checklists, and lessons learned from your own experience.

Pre-Sales and Client Collaboration

• Provide accurate effort estimations and technical feasibility assessments for new business opportunities.

• Collaborate with the business development team during pre-sales — join discovery calls, prepare technical proposals, and present architecture to prospective clients.

• Act as the technical point of contact for key client stakeholders during project scoping and kickoff.

• Translate business requirements into clear technical plans and deliverables.

DevOps and Cloud Oversight

• Manage and guide the DevOps engineers — set priorities, review infrastructure decisions, and ensure alignment with project needs.

• Oversee application hosting and infrastructure on AWS, leveraging services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront, ECS, and API Gateway.

• Ensure CI/CD pipelines, security compliance, and scalability of cloud infrastructure are maintained.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies.

• Proactively suggest improvements to processes, tools, and technologies to enhance efficiency and quality.

• Conduct code reviews to maintain quality standards and mentor developers through constructive feedback.

•  Experience: 8+ years in software development with 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role managing teams.

• Technical Expertise:

• • Deep proficiency in Node.js, Express.js, and Next.js.

  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis.

  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and event-driven systems.

  • Experience with AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront, ECS, and API Gateway.

  • Proven ability to design and document scalable system architectures — including caching strategies, database design, and API design.

  • Experience providing effort estimations and technical proposals for mid-to-large projects.

• Experience working in a software services/agency environment with multiple concurrent projects.

• Experience with TypeScript in production codebases.

• Exposure to message queues (RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka) and real-time systems (WebSockets, Socket.io).

• Working knowledge of containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes) — enough to guide your DevOps team.

• Experience with serverless architectures on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions).

• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools like CloudWatch, Datadog, Sentry, or New Relic.

• Familiarity with ORMs like Prisma, Sequelize, or TypeORM.

• Exposure to Agile methodologies and project management tools like Jira or Linear.

• Experience with GraphQL.
